DERBY POR VIDA!

Welcome to Derby Por Vida, the LA Derby Dolls Roller Derby Fitness program!

Cost for the program is $10/hr class and a $45 Derby Por Vida membership fee, which covers the cost of USARS insurance from January-December 2010.  We provide some gear and skates to borrow while you try out Derby Por Vida classes, but please bring your own wrist guards and mouthguards.  All classes are located at the L.A. Derby Dolls' Doll Factory at 1910 W Temple Street, Los Angeles. Parking is available in the lot with an entrance off Westlake Avenue.

Please RSVP 24 hours in advance if you plan to attend class, and bring a photocopy of your picture ID (such as a Driver's License or Passport) to your first session.  Payments may only be accepted via cash and check.

SKILLS FOR THRILLS

Pre-requisite: None

Class Options: CO-ED, Female only

An 8-week skating skills class for beginners.

Week 1: Falling and strides

Week 2: Stopping and going (take-offs)

Week 3: Transitions and Jumping

Week 4: Whips, Basic blocking technique

Week 5: Review

Week 6: Advanced Stops

Week 7: Game Strategy and Pack Play

Week 8: Review and Introduction of scrimmage

DERBY POWER CLASS

Pre-requisite: Must complete weeks 1-4 of Skills for Thrills or have instructor approval.

Class Options: CO-ED

A hybrid of plyometrics training off-skates and endurance drills on skates. This is place for the intermediate skater to strengthen, sweat and improve endurance.

ROLLER DERBY 101

Pre-requisite: Must complete weeks 1-8 of Skills for Thrills or have instructor approval. 

Class Options:CO-ED

Learn the rules and strategies of Banked and Flat Track Roller Derby. This class will include drills and scrimmaging on both surfaces.

YOGA FOR ATHLETES

Wednesdays:  6:15-7:15pm and 7:30-8:30pm (Green Room)
Thursdays:  6:15-7:15pm (Green Room)
Cost: $10
 
Pre-requisite:  Some mats are available for free; however, your own mat is preferable.  Leave your shoes and ego at the door.
Class options:  Co-ed
 
Please join me in a multi-level Hatha yoga class designed specifically for athletes.  You don't even have to be able to touch your toes to take this class!  The focus of this meditative yet light-hearted practice will be on bringing awareness to the breath, mind and body in order to help you achieve your maximum athletic and personal potential.  Classes will be designed on opening hip flexibility, shoulder stability, core strength, stamina and overall balance.  All classes are suitable to take before or after roller derby practice or as a stand alone class.

Ages 18+ are welcome (under 18:  please make arrangements with instructor prior to class)

Hoop Burn!

Pre-requisite: Bring a blind fold, water, and wear comfortable fitted workout clothes.

Class Options: CO-ED

Come to Hoop Burn Wednesdays from 6:15-7:15pm in the Party Room. Hooping is a great ab workout, meditative and a fun way to burn calories. Bring a Blind fold, water, and wear comfortable fitted workout clothes.  Hoops are available to borrow and we'll have hoops available to buy in class.  Cost for the class is $10/class (this price $5-$15 less than other hoop classes in Los Angeles).  I look forward to hooping with you!
