Los Angeles- As a part of their ongoing commitment to bettering the L.A. community, the L.A. Derby Dolls (www.derbydolls.com/la), in partnership with Los Angeles City Council Member Eric Garcetti’s office (www.ci.la.ca.us/council/cd13), will host their second annual Free Health Fair on Saturday August 21, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Doll Factory (1910 W. Temple St. Los Angeles, CA 90026).
The fair will provide all local residents with holistic and traditional medical services including free and low cost health screenings, mammograms, Medi-Cal enrollment assistance, massage therapy and alternative health workshops. Nutrition and disease prevention information will also be available. Healthcare providers include AIDS Project LA, Western Dental, YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles, Be the Match Bone Marrow Registry, Planned Parenthood, and more. Free food and refreshments will be provided.

The success of LADD’s first health fair, which took place October 2008, prompted the development of the upcoming fair. More than 500 residents are expected to be in attendance.
LADD has worked with the Human Rights Campaign, After School All Stars, and Meet Each Need with Dignity (M.E.N.D) to provide with community with services. They were honored in 2009 as a Treasure of Los Angeles by the Central City Association, an honor that puts the LADD in the company of the L.A. Dodgers and Magic Johnson. Los Angeles – Earthquakes aren’t the only thing shaking Southern California this summer. On Saturday June 12th the L.A. Derby Dolls (www.derbydolls.com/la), Southern California’s premiere women’s banked track roller derby league, will rock the city when the Aftershockers, the league’s hard-hitting all-star B team, bouts against the Arizona Derby Dames at the Doll Factory (1910 W. Temple Street 90026). Then on Sunday June 13th, the L.A. Derby Dolls will feature up and coming skaters in 2010’s second Baby Doll Brawl, open to all ages.
The Aftershockers feature all-stars from all four L.A. based teams. Captain Suzy Snakeyes (Tough Cookies) and co-captain Trixie Biscuit (Fight Crew) lead crowd favorites like Judy Gloom (Fight Crew), Roxy Cotton (Sirens), Mickispeedia (Varsity Brawlers), Sniperella (Tough Cookies), and many more. This will be the Aftershockers’ first home game of the season, and they’re looking to crumble the competition.
The Arizona Derby Dames play banked track roller derby in Phoenix, Arizona. AZDD’s motto is “Live fast, die pretty,” but will good looks and speedy skating be enough to stop the force of nature that is the Aftershockers?
And on June 13th, come back to the Doll Factory and bring your family to 2010’s second Babydoll Brawl, a full bout featuring L.A. Derby Dolls’ newest skaters and future stars. This bout, the Pink Panthers will take on Black-N-Bruisers. While Saturday night’s bout is 21+, Sunday’s Baby Doll Brawl is all-ages.
On Saturday June 12 band The Victor Ship will perform at halftime and DJ Stiv Skator will keep the tunes flowing. On Sunday June 13, DJ LARG3 will rock the Baby Doll Brawl. L.A. Fight Crew, led by captain Janis Choplin and co-captain Haught Wheels, lost by just 10 points to the Tough Cookies in February, and they’re eager to make a comeback. Crowd favorites like Tara Armov, Judy Gloom, and Bombshell Betty are joined by new draft pick Cherrylicious, a veteran flat track skater ready to make a name for herself on the banked track.
The Swarm, San Diego’s banked track home team, returns to the Doll Factory for the first time since last year’s Championships. Captain Bonnie D. Stroir and co-captain Some Brero hope to regain some of the Swarm’s 2009 momentum by grounding Fight Crew with a definitive victory.

]]>LOS ANGELES – The L.A. Derby Dolls (www.derbydolls.com/la), Southern California’s premiere all-female, banked track roller derby league, will close the 2009 season with a crash on Saturday, Dec. 5 at the Doll Factory (1910 Temple Street, Los Angeles CA 90026). This championship bout between 2008 titleholders, the Tough Cookies, and the undefeated Swarm, will be a knock-down, drag-out fight to the finish.
Fans received a thrilling sneak preview on Nov. 14 when these two dominant teams faced off for the first time. Both went into the game undefeated, but the Swarm emerged victorious. The Cookies came back from a halftime 20-point deficit, narrowing the score to 84-79 in the fourth quarter. Hindered by numerous skater ejections, however, the Cookies fell apart in the final two minutes of the game, losing 79 to 94.
The Swarm – the L.A. Derby Dolls’ fifth and newest team – is now ranked number one for the season, but as demonstrated in this last match, the championship title is truly up for grabs. Undoubtedly, the veteran Cookies want to save face following their only loss of the season, and repeat their 2008 championship victory. The Swarm, meanwhile, is anxious to see their first championship banner hang inside the Doll Factory. Whatever the outcome, this rematch promises to be the not-to-be-missed battle of the season.
Live karaoke ensemble, The Lemones, will return to the Doll Factory for a set of 80s karaoke. Derby fans will have the opportunity to belt out their favorite 80s hits before a panel of discerning L.A. Derby Dolls’ judges. The Helvins will perform at halftime. LOS ANGELES – The L.A. Two of the league’s most experienced teams – the bulletproof Sirens vs. a fearless Fight Crew – promise a tremendous bout on Sat., Oct. 24 at the Doll Factory (1910 Temple Street, Los Angeles CA 90026). These veteran skaters will demonstrate why roller derby has become the fastest growing women’s sport in the country.
It’s been a rough season for the Fight Crew, who go into their final game of 2009 with an 0-3 record. The Crew is determined to skate away with a win, taking some cops along for the ride. The red and black attack is led by Captain Janis Choplin and Co-Captain Haught Wheels. Expect stalwarts Tara Armov, Trixie Biscuit and Broadzilla to take their opponents to the rail and make ‘em squeal
The Sirens are 1-2 for the season and no doubt want to remind long-time rivals, the Fight Crew, which team calls the shots inside the Doll Factory. Captain Amber Alert! and Co-Captain Roxy Cotton will lead the raid alongside fan favorites P.I.T.A., Killo Kitty and Paris Killton.
